Letter from the First Vice President
Hi Ladies –
I hope everyone enjoyed painting with Kathy Swigon. The bell pull had some very interesting
aspects – it wasn’t as simple as it looked. And, what about those iridescent metallic we used! The
faux finish on the box was interesting and I’ll be using that one again. Although I wasn’t able to
finish my box, I’ll have a nice gift box for someone when it’s done.
Our workshop scheduled for May 7
th
is ‘Non-traditional Strokework’, taught by Lee Fasnacht. This
is a very unique project that is painted on an unusual surface – a rolling pin – but the design can
easily be adapted to many other surfaces. I believe it would look great on a box lid or a picture
frame. With your creativity, I’m sure you’ll be anxious to try your hand with this one.
In June, we will be painting ‘Mr. Pelican’ taught by Pat Smelkoff. For those of you who don’t
know Pat, she is one of our past Presidents, a published author of painting books and many
magazine articles, and a very experienced teacher. I believe we will all learn something new from
Pat and also painting this project.
Sign-ups for all of these Workshops are now being taken. You can always contact me by email
(rcm0335@gmail.com) or phone (386-447-1923), if you have any questions.
See you at our May 7
th
class, if not before.
Ruth McDonald
First Vice President
ABOUT US
Our Chapter was formed in 2003. Since that time, members
have enjoyed trying their skills at various types of art: oil,
acrylic, fabric and water color painting, tangles, colored pencil,
and glass painting. We paint on many different surfaces,
including canvas, gourds, baskets, and wooden surfaces. Our
Chapter children’s project is Kids R First which is photo boxes
being painted for local foster children ranging in age from
infant to 18 years.
Meetings are held the first Saturday of every month at 9:00
a.m. at the Flagler Women’s Club, 1524 S. Central Avenue,
Flagler Beach, FL. After our meeting, we have a scheduled
workshop. For information about Palm Coast Decorative
Painters, please explore our site. You can check the latest
newsletter to see what’s coming up or contact any of the Board
Members. To learn more about membership options in the
